Acupuncture for IBS

If you have IBS, at Gateway to Acupuncture we will take a holistic view and look into your medical history. We will also consider any emotional factors that may have affected your health. This is because the digestive system is linked closely with the autonomic nervous system, which is affected by emotional states. Sometimes people comment that their health worsened after a particular event or point in their life - and they would like to get back to where they were before but are unable to do so. We will explore their symptoms to look for clues as to why they have developed health problems using Chinese medical theory. We will also consider whether there may be specific imbalances and/or energetic 'blocks' that can be identified through diagnosis and the patient's response to treatments.

It is very important that you seek medical advice if you have IBS symptoms so that other health problems can be ruled out. Acupuncture is, at the very least, a safe treatment option for this condition although the evidence is too limited to be able to say conclusively that the treatment works.
